Blue moon is a rare turquoise that is a high-grade gemstone found near the famous Royston mining district in Tonopah, Nevada. This mine is operated by the Otteson family who also operates the Royston mine along with several others.

The output of this mine is strictly controlled and very little amount of material is released to the market, keeping prices of this stone high.

Because it is infrequently mined and requires moving massive amounts of earth for small yields, natural, untreated Blue Moon Turquoise is scarce and valued by jewelry artists.
