Nila (pronounced Nee-la) is derived from a Sanskrit word encompassing the full spectrum of blue.

The Nila mine is one of the newest small scale American turquoise varieties. The Reifer family placed claim and broke ground around 2024-2025 on this property in the high desert hills of western Nevada. This is a grassroots mine operation where they dig the fault lines with traditional tools like picks, axes and shovels, recently upgrading to machinery. All of my Nila turquoise has come directly from the mine owners who dig and cut their own stones.
