This turquoise mine is located near the southern end of the Pilot Mountains near Tonopah Nevada. The mine originally opened as a copper claim in the early 1900’s. The mining rights are currently held by the Otteson Family alongside others such as Cordovas, Wilsons and Durango Silver Company.

I have purchased the majority of my Pilot Mtn stones from the Otteson family as well as Durango Silver Company.

I had my eye on this piece of turquoise because it wanted copper to bring out the brown matrix and silver to reflect the blues. It made me think of the sunsets on the Blue Ridge Mountains.
