Sierra Nevada turquoise comes from the rugged mountains in Nevada. This region is known for producing some of the most distinctive turquoise in the American West. Many of the turquoise deposits are relatively small and individual mines can produce turquoise with characteristics that make the material recognizable to collectors and artists. Since some of the deposits are very small, this makes some varieties particularly sought after which drives up the price per caret.

Sierra Nevada is one of my favorite turquoise mines. It develops a wide variety of colors but I am most drawn to the deep blues.
